When our colleague ETimes asked Bindu if she regrets anything in life, the actress said, “The happiness of motherhood was not in my destiny. I could not be a mother. Was pregnant in 1977. I even stopped shooting. But there were some complications. I lost my baby after 6 months of pregnancy. My baby shower was to be held the very next day. It was a very sad moment. Sunil sahib and Nargis ji had come to my house to give me courage. Sharmila (Tagore) wrote me a very lovely letter. I cannot forget those things and moments.’
Bindu further told that for the child, he again resorted to test tube baby. He also went abroad for treatment, but to no avail. Bindu said, ‘Later we tried for a test tube baby. I went to London and there Dr. Patrick Steptoe got treatment. But nothing worked out. I stayed there for one and a half months, three months…according to this interval. But I was told that I would have to stay there for a year and that was not possible for me.
Bindu further said that every woman wants to be a mother, but she should be happy in whatever fate gives. When Bindu was asked why did she get married at the age of 18? So he replied, ‘My husband Champak Lal Jhaveri was my neighbor. I was 14-15 years old when our romance started. At that time I was doing the film ‘Anpadh’. Initially our relationship was not accepted. But the family later accepted. After that we got married.
Was it easy or difficult to work after marriage? When asked, Bindu said, ‘When I was offered ‘Do Raaste’ in ‘1979’, the husband said, ‘What is the need?’ We were financially well off. But he respected my passion for acting. Initially people did not know that I was married. I also benefited. But slowly people came to know.
