If PCOS is not treated properly, it can lead to health problems and even infertility.
PCOS Awareness Month
Every year in the month of September, PCOS Awareness Month is celebrated in the month of September to make people aware about PCOS and to save women from this disease. In this condition, cysts are formed inside the ovary which makes it difficult for women to conceive.
In an article published in The Times of India, Dr Kshitij Murdia, CEO and co-founder of Indira IVF, has given some information about the cysts formed in PCOS and the infertility caused by it.
Cysts are formed in the ovary
Ovaries are also a part of the female reproductive system that work to produce and then release eggs into the reproductive tract during ovulation. The ovaries also make the hormones estrogen and progesterone. The most common condition that occurs in the ovaries is PCOS in which cysts form inside the ovary and an egg is not released during ovulation.
These cysts can cause infertility, but many other types of cysts are formed in the ovary.
Functional cysts do not cause harm and do not cause pain. They get better on their own after two or three periods. There are two types of this follicle and corpus luteum cyst.
A fluid-filled lump of tissue in an ovary is called a follicle cyst. When the follicle is unable to ovulate, it forms a cyst. If it is bigger than 5 cm then there may be trouble.
On the other hand, a corpus luteum cyst is a type of ovarian cyst that forms in the corpus luteum. After the egg is released, it becomes a cyst filled with fluid from the blown follicle.
non functional system
There are three types of this system:
- Endometriosis: An endometrial cyst is formed when cells from the inner lining of the uterus grow outside the endometrial lining. In this, 30 to 50 percent of women have infertility.
- Dermoid Cyst: These are tumors formed in the ovary, in which the tissue of hair, teeth, bone and skin etc. is filled. However, this tumor does not turn into cancer.
- Cystadenomas: This cyst forms over the ovary and may be filled with water or mucus.
Cysts cause infertility
Any type of cyst in the ovary can be caused due to poor lifestyle or any hormonal disorder such as thyroid. Cysts can cause infertility in women of reproductive age, so start treatment early and make appropriate lifestyle changes.
