The Congress has decided not to participate in the Constitution Day program to be held in the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday. It alleges that the Narendra Modi government is continuously attacking the Constitution and weakening the constitutional institutions. According to sources, the decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Affairs Strategic Group chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Congress had boycotted the event last year as well. A senior party leader said that when the government is continuously attacking the Constitution and weakening the constitutional institutions, then what is the pretense of such a program. We cannot participate in such a program of a government attacking the Constitution.
According to sources, Congress leaders are in touch with the leaders of the opposition parties. DMK, Shiv Sena, RSP, Nationalist Congress Party, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, JMM, IUML and some other parties may also boycott the event. It is worth noting that under the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, a program will be organized in the Central Hall of Parliament on Friday (November 26) on Constitution Day, which will be addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the President will read out the Preamble of the Constitution after his address and the whole country has been invited to read the Preamble of the Constitution with him.
