2017 assembly election. The wind was blowing against the Akali-BJP alliance in Punjab. Two big leaders were making a lot of connections in the competition. Amarinder Singh from Congress and Arvind Kejriwal from Aam Aadmi Party. There came a time when it seemed that Kejriwal would take the reins. In some election survey it was claimed that perhaps Kejriwal may give a dent this time in the political riots of Punjab.
But the captain remains a big player of politics. When the result came, all the political pundits were shocked and upset. In the 117-member Punjab Assembly, the Congress made a thumping performance, winning 77 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party had to be satisfied with 20 seats. Akali Dal’s condition became very slim and it could win only 15 seats. BJP got 2 seats and others got 5 seats.
Who benefits from the war between Captain and Sidhu?
Now that the assembly elections are to be held in Punjab next year and there is a lot of political turmoil going on in the Congress. In such a situation, there is a discussion that the Aam Aadmi Party can take the biggest advantage of the mutual quarrel in Punjab Congress.
Manish Tewari said on Sidhu’s advisor – should such people be in Congress?
Somewhere, Captain Amarinder Singh is very angry with the message being received from the Congress high command and has allegedly threatened to leave the CM’s chair. In such a situation, there is bound to be two splits in the Congress. One faction is of Navjot Singh Sidhu and the rebel MLAs and the other faction is of Amarinder and his supporters.
Who got in the last election, how many votes
Arvind Kejriwal must be seeing an opportunity in this fight, because there is a solid reason behind it. In the 2017 assembly elections, Congress got 38.5 per cent and AAP got 25.3 per cent votes. On the other hand, Akali Dal got 25.3%, BJP 5.3% and others 7.1% votes.
If you look at these figures, then the Akali Dal can also kill the opportunity. However, this seems unlikely because there is still anger among the people of Punjab about the Akalis and Kejriwal’s party can be very important as an alternative.
Kejriwal opened the cards
Earlier, to woo the people of Punjab, Kejriwal had made his intention clear by promising free electricity. He had said that if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wins the elections in Punjab, then free electricity will be given in that state. He has promised to provide free electricity up to 300 units. In Delhi, people are getting 200 units of electricity free of cost. Also, those whose old electricity bills are due will be waived off.
The Aam Aadmi Party hopes that with the help of this promise, it will definitely win the hearts of the people of Punjab, especially the farmers. This is the reason why Kejriwal has made similar promises in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
