‘Yamlok Sidhar instead of public reform…’, Congress targets BJP, forcing it to commit suicide

New Delhi
The Congress on Sunday accused the BJP government of forcing people to suffer from “suicidal depression”. Citing a National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, it said a total of 9.52 since 2014 till date. Lakhs of people have committed suicide.

Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said in a statement that according to the report there has been an increase of 55 percent in the number of students committing suicide, 58 percent in the number of such unemployed and 139.37 percent in the number of farmers, laborers and daily wage laborers.

“During the last seven years between 2014 and 2020, 9,52,875 Indians were forced to commit suicide due to the failed and senseless policies of the Modi government,” he said. “Today, the government, in an attempt to hide its failed anti-people policies, is promoting division, negativity, despair among the people,” he said.

Surjewala said the BJP’s “lust” for power remains despite such poor figures. He said the figures revealed in the report are “horrifying and heartbreaking”.

The National Crime Records Bureau under the Union Home Ministry released a report titled ‘Suicides and Accidental Deaths in India’ last month.

Surjewala alleged that the opportunities for progress of every section of the society have been converted into depression by the Modi government. “Faced with the gloom of unemployment, inflation, rising crop prices and overall uncertainty, the people of the country are embracing death by opting for suicide,” he said.

The Congress leader said that housewives are constantly bearing the brunt of inflation and the prices of everyday items are increasing. He claimed that inflation and lack of employment opportunities are the main causes of domestic strife and due to this, housewives are choosing the path of suicide.

He said, “NCRB data shows the government’s picture instead of public reforms.” He said farmer suicides increased by 19 per cent from 2019 to 2020 due to the government’s “anti-farmer” policies.

Surjewala said the future of the country was bleak and cited the suicides of 69,407 students between 2014 and 2020 to support this claim.
