India won the series by defeating New Zealand 3-0. On this, T20 captain Rohit Sharma has described the bowlers as the biggest plus point of the series for the host team. He also praised off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, saying that he was present as an attacking option for the team, especially in the middle overs.
“I think it has been a wonderful comeback for Ashwin,” Sharma said in a post-match press conference. He impressed everyone with the red ball as well as the white ball. His record is not bad, the way he bowled in Dubai and then did well in two matches here. It reflects the qualities that he possesses. He is always an attacking option for the captain.
Captain Sharma heaped special praise on Ashwin, who has taken nine wickets since making his T20I comeback during the World Cup. In the series against New Zealand, Ashwin picked up important wickets while curbing runs in the middle overs.
He further said about Ashwin, ‘In the middle overs you need to brake on the run rate, scoring rate and take wickets. So, I think that’s what Ashwin and Akshar did. Both these players are wicket-taking options and when they bowl it becomes difficult for the opposing team to score runs.
