- Chahal has been left out of the 15-man squad selected for the T20 World Cup
- Rahul Chahar, who plays for Mumbai in IPL, has got a chance in place of Chahal.
- 4 spinners have been included in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup
Team India captain Virat Kohli has broken his silence after veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not given a place in the T20 World Cup squad. Kohli says that it was not easy to drop Chahal from the World Cup squad.
In place of Chahal, Rahul Chahar has got a chance for the World Cup in Team India. While interacting with the media on Saturday, Virat revealed why Chahar was preferred over Chahal.
Virat said, ‘It was a challenging decision. For one reason, we decided to include Rahul Chahar in the team. He has been bowling brilliantly in the IPL for the last few years. This bowler has got the pace. Chahar bowled well in difficult conditions on the tour of Sri Lanka and in the home series against England. Though the decision to keep Chahal out was tough but the numbers are limited in the World Cup squad and not everyone can find a place.
Chahal’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad was a shocking decision. Chahal has been an important part of Team India in limited overs for some time now. In the recently concluded IPL 2021, Chahal’s performance was excellent for RCB. He took 18 wickets in 15 matches of the current IPL, including 14 wickets in 8 matches in UAE. Chahar from Rajasthan took 13 wickets in 11 matches for Mumbai Indians in this season of IPL.
According to Virat, ‘We are confident that as the tournament progresses, the wicket will slow down. In such a situation, a fast bowler can trouble the batsmen. Rahul Chahar has this quality. He always attacks the wicket. It was because of this quality of Chahar that he was chosen.
Jadeja, Varun, Chahar and Ashwin are included as spinners
The Indian team currently has Ravindra Jadeja, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty and Ravichandran Ashwin as spin all-rounders. Axar Patel has been kept in the reserve players.
