India Sports Award Winners: 12 athletes including Neeraj Chopra and Ravi Dahiya got Khel Ratna, 35 got Arjuna Award, see full list

Twelve athletes, including Tokyo Olympics flag-bearer gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, silver medalist wrestler Ravi Dahiya, women’s cricketer Mithali Raj and hockey captain Manpreet Singhi, were honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award on Saturday. The name of Olympic bronze medalist Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh was added to the list later.

Neeraj Chopra was first honored by President Ram Nath Kovind at the country’s highest sports award ceremony. Chopra became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics with an effort of 87.58m at the Tokyo Games on August 7. Other sportspersons who received the Khel Ratna include Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Olympic silver medalist wrestler Ravi Dahiya. Wrestler Ravi Dahiya won the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics itself.

Female cricketer Mithali Raj has also been selected for the Khel Ratna Award. Most of the Arjuna Awardees are silver medalists in Paralympic Games. These include cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. 35 athletes are included in the list of Arjuna Awardees.
