Corona positive case has been confirmed in Sri Lankan team ahead of ODI and T20 series against India. Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower has been found infected with Covid. Flower was with the team on the tour of England, which has returned home in the past. After the first case of Corona, the entire Sri Lankan squad has been quarantined. Along with this, instructions have also been given not to come out of their rooms till further orders.
Bad defeat in England
The England tour for Sri Lanka was nothing short of a nightmare. The hosts England won all the matches played on the tour. Sri Lanka was wiped out 0-3 in the first three-match T20 series, then the situation was more or less the same in the ODI series. After losing the first two ODIs, the visiting team had already lost the series, that last match was canceled due to rain, otherwise a clean sweep was also fixed in the ODI series.
Three players sent back from England
Sri Lanka Cricket has constituted a five-member panel on the case of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilak breaking the bio-bubble on the England tour. All three were deported from the middle of the series after the violation was discovered. Fans made videos of the trio roaming the streets after losing the match, despite restrictions on the movement of players due to the Covid-19 threat.
Controversy over salary
Sri Lankan cricket has been going through rough times both on and off the field for quite some time now. There has been a long-standing dispute between the players and the SLC over national contracts and the board says it was not needed at this time. On Wednesday, 29 out of 30 players signed tour contracts for the series against India starting July 13. Senior player Angelo Mathews has reportedly refused a contract and is considering retirement.
Series against India from 13th
India sent a less experienced side, led by Shikhar Dhawan, to Sri Lanka, with six players who have not played an international match, with skipper Virat Kohli and limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma on tour to England for the upcoming Test series. India-Sri Lanka will play three ODIs on July 13, 16 and 18 and then three T20Is on July 21, 23 and 25. All matches will be played at Premadasa Stadium here.
