Punjab Kings captain Lokesh Rahul said after their two-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals despite being in pretty good shape in an Indian Premier League match here on Tuesday. That this defeat is difficult to digest. Punjab’s team needed only four runs in the last over with eight wickets remaining but only one run was scored in the over by Karthik Tyagi (2 for 29 runs).
After the defeat, Rahul said, ‘It is difficult to digest this defeat. We need to deal with pressure better. It is difficult to digest this defeat as we have not learned a lesson from our past mistakes.
“We bowled well in the first six overs but unfortunately the ball did not reach the fielder with the edge of the bat. But we came back well with the ball in the last overs.
Chasing the Royals’ target of 186, Punjab Kings took 120 of the first wicket between Mayank Agarwal (67 off 43 balls, seven fours, two sixes) and captain Lokesh Rahul (49 off 33 balls, four fours, two sixes). Despite the run partnership, only 183 runs could be scored for four wickets. Pooran and Aidan Markram (26 not out) put on 57 runs for the third wicket to take Punjab to the threshold of victory but could not win.
Royals scored 185 runs in 20 overs thanks to the flamboyant innings of young batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal (49 off 36 balls, two sixes, six fours) and Mahipal Lomror (43 off 17 balls, four sixes, two fours).
