Legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni joined the Indian team on Sunday as a ‘mentor’ for the T20 World Cup. Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) two days ago under his leadership. Dhoni was appointed to the new role last month.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted two pictures of Dhoni along with head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar on Twitter, writing, “King Crown on Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s return to the Indian team in a new role. Warm welcome.’

Dhoni has become a mentor for free
Dhoni is not charging even a single rupee for this responsibility. In fact, in the past, Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, had given this information in a conversation with the news agency ANAE. Jay Shah had said, “MS Dhoni is not taking any honorarium for his services as a mentor to the Indian team for the T20 World Cup.”

Dhoni is the world winning captain
Wicket-keeper batsman Dhoni, one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket, has led India to two World Cup titles – the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa and the 2011 ODI World Cup in India. On 15 August 2020, he suddenly announced his retirement from international cricket. After that this will be the first time that he is associated with the team.

Nine finals and four titles in IPL
Chennai Super Kings entered the finals in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2019, but won only in 2010, 2011 and 2018. Dhoni’s team, having lost five times out of the last eight finals, made no mistake in the 14th season. Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated in the title match.
