India vs New Zealand, 1st T20I At Jaipur: With the new coach Rahul Dravid and the new captain Rohit Sharma, there is a change in Team India too. In the first T20 match against New Zealand played in Jaipur, India won by 5 wickets.
Rohit on the field, Dravid outside, winning on account… these new pictures of Team India are telling what has changed
Sunil Gavaskar, doing commentary, could see Dravid’s white hair. Shreyas Iyer was caught on the last ball of this over. Dravid lowered his eyes and wrote something in his diary. Keep writing for a long time, as if some important link has been found. What happened next shows how Team India is transforming under the guidance of a new coach.
Dravid is back and his style too
Another Iyer, Venkatesh comes to the crease when Shreyas is dismissed. 10 runs needed from 6 balls. The first ball was wide, then on the next ball, Venkatesh hit a four. This time the coach was seen applauding with a light hand. But on the very next ball, Iyer went from hero to zero. Reverse sweep on Mitchell’s ball and caught at short backward point.
Dravid sat calmly. Still no tension on the face. Like he was sure that Rishabh Pant would do his job and he did too. Pant gave the first victory to Dravid as a coach and Rohit Sharma as a permanent T20 captain by hitting a four on the fourth ball of the last over. Dravid also welcomed this victory in his own style – with emotion.
Sometimes stumbled but in the end everything was fine…
Dravid’s impression as a coach began to be seen from the team that came against New Zealand. Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar must have been thinking of Dravid to get a chance. Venkatesh Iyer was not bowled by the team but it was definitely expected from him in batting. However, he could not leave his mark. Among the bowlers, Deepah Chahar and Mohammad Siraj proved to be very expensive but the other three bowled well. Kiwi team scored 164 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets.
In reply, India made a quick start. The first wicket fell in the form of KL Rahul on the score of 50 runs in 5.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed in 13.2 overs, the score was 109 runs. The match was in India’s hold till Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed in 16.4 overs. But after that a bad shot from Shreyas Iyer and then Venkatesh Iyer trapped the match. Team India managed to register victory in the last over with the help of Pant.
Sharma and Dravid have similar nature: Gavaskar
If you look at the nature of both of them, you will find a lot of similarities. Rohit is as calm as Rahul Dravid. So, I think their relationship will be very good as both will understand each other very well.

Rohit Sharma has changed on the field
Sharma has captained India in many matches in the past, but had landed for the first time as a full-time captain. His tuning with Dravid is excellent, Rohit is very cool with fellow players as well. Deepak Chahar was hit a lot in yesterday’s match, despite this, when he took a wicket, Rohit encouraged him from the front.
Rahul always keeps an eye on the team
What kind of player is playing on the field, where is the deficiency which can be overcome, how to strengthen the team bonding… Rahul Dravid all keep in mind. In practice sessions, he is often seen reading the movements of the players.
Dravid is enjoying coaching
Most of the players of Team India have played under Dravid in the past, so they did not face any problem in adjusting. He participates in team events and was also seen playing football in Jaipur.
