- This is KKR’s biggest win while chasing against RCB
- Kolkata won against Virat’s RCB team with 60 balls to spare
- Spin bowler Varun Chakraborty, who took 3 wickets, was adjudged man of the match
The Royal Challengers Bangalore team, captained by Virat Kohli, was bundled out for 92 runs in front of Kolkata Knight Riders in the 31st match of IPL 2021. Alam was that the star-studded RCB team could not even bat the full 20 overs.
Captain Virat Kohli himself also disappointed. Virat had come to play the 200th match for RCB but he could not make it memorable. Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring just 5 runs. At the same time, AB de Villiers was not allowed to open the account by Andre Russell, while Glenn Maxwell was bowled by Varun Chakravarthy to end his 17-run innings.
Opener Devdutt Padikkal appeared in fine form but he too went on to score 22 runs off 20 balls. Fans could not stop themselves after seeing RCB piled up for 92 runs and started cursing Kohli and Co on social media.
One fan wrote, ’20 overs are not being played, and let’s see the dream of winning the title.’ Another fan wrote, ‘Kohli got out early to manage the workload.’
KKR won the match by 9 wickets
KKR bundled out RCB for 92 runs with the sharp bowling of Andre Russell and Varun Chakraborty. After this, KKR’s team won by 9 wickets with 60 balls remaining. Russell took 9 while Chakraborty took three wickets for 13 runs, which reduced the entire team of RCB in 19 overs.
Lockie Ferguson took two wickets for 24 runs. The Bangalore team lost wickets at regular intervals and the team never looked in a position to score big. Apart from opener Devdutt Padikkal (22), none of the RCB batsmen could cross the 20-run mark. The dominance of KKR’s bowlers can be gauged from the fact that after the power play, RCB’s team could score only 51 runs. Only eight fours were hit in the entire innings of RCB.
Kohli will leave the captaincy of T20 team and RCB
Virat had announced on Sunday that he would step down from the captaincy of RCB after the current IPL season. Earlier, he had decided to step down from the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. Virat will not captain Team India’s T20 team after the upcoming T20 World Cup. Kohli decided to step down from the captaincy of the T20 team citing workload.
