Shreyas Iyer has grabbed the opportunity in the Test with both hands. Shreyas, who scored a century in the first innings of the debut Test against New Zealand (IND vs NZ Kanpur Test), scored a half-century in the second innings. Along with this, Shreyas has created history at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Shreyas, who played for Mumbai in domestic cricket, has become the first Indian to score a century and a half-century in the debut Test. Shreyas is the overall 10th player to achieve this feat. He scored 105 runs in the first innings. Shreyas completed his fifty off 109 balls.
The 26-year-old Shreyas had put on 121 runs for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings and shared a 39-run stand with Rahane for the fourth wicket. In the second innings, Shreyas added 52 runs for the sixth wicket with R Ashwin, while he shared a 64 runs partnership with Saha for the seventh wicket.
Shreyas is at number three in terms of scoring 50 plus in both the innings of the debut test. Earlier Dilawar Hussain and Sunil Gavaskar have achieved this feat.
Broke Lala Amarnath’s record
Shreyas Iyer (170 runs, 105 in the first innings, 65 in the second innings) has reached number three in terms of scoring the most runs in the debut Test among Indians. He broke Lala Amarnath’s record during this period. Amarnath had scored 156 runs against England in 1933/34. Shikhar Dhawan is at number one in this list. Dhawan had scored 187 runs against Australia in Mohali in 2012/13, while Rohit Sharma scored 177 runs against Windies in Kolkata in 2013/14.
Shreyas averages 52.18 in first class cricket
Shreyas Iyer has done brilliantly in first class cricket to reach here. He averages 52.18 in first class cricket and has a very fast strike rate (81.54). An opportunity came for him in the team when Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were dropped from the first Test being played in Kanpur.
