On the first night of a couple’s wedding in Pakistan’s Punjab province, four robbers wearing police uniforms allegedly gang-raped the 22-year-old newlywed in front of her husband. This information was given by the police on Thursday. The police quoted the FIR as saying that the incident took place on Wednesday when the bridegroom Mohammad Latif’s procession arrived at his residence in Shuja’s Mochipura in Multan, about 350 km from Lahore, with the bride.
Later, the four robbers, wearing police uniforms, entered the house and gang-raped the bride by taking family members hostage. A senior police officer said, “Four robbers wearing police uniforms broke into the wee hours of Wednesday.” They took the family hostage and entered the couple’s room where they gang-raped the bride in front of her husband. They also tortured the couple. ‘
Instructions to catch the culprits as soon as possible
The robbers looted five tolas (58.3 grams) of gold and Rs 1,25,000 from the bride. Police said the couple were later taken to the hospital and the medical report confirmed the rape. The condition of the bride is said to be stable. Senior police officer Khurram Ali Shah met the victim’s family and assured them justice. Shah said, “The forensic report will help in setting the direction of the investigation.”
He also said that police officers are investigating whether the suspects were staunch criminals or that they targeted the family due to some personal enmity. Punjab Province Chief Minister Osman Bujdar has directed the police officers to apprehend the culprits at the earliest. There is a lot of anger among the locals from this incident.
