S Jaishankar hints at Dubai, UAE to host ‘West Asian Quad’ meeting


External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar visited the Indian Pavilion at the Dubai 2020 Expo on Saturday. Here he said India, the United Arab Emirates, the US and Israel, also known as the ‘West Asian Quad’, will meet in the coming week. In response to a question, the External Affairs Minister said that our first meeting was held a month ago. It was a hybrid meeting. We have agreed on the next meeting which will probably take place in Dubai in the coming weeks.

During the last Quad meeting, issues like trade, climate and maritime security were at the center of discussion. Jaishankar, who arrived at the Dubai 2020 Expo, met his counterparts from Slovakia, Cyprus and Luxembourg. They discussed strengthening cooperation in key areas including healthcare. During his visit to the Indian pavilion, Jaishankar praised it for having attracted three lakh people so far.

The External Affairs Minister said on Twitter, ‘Visted the Indian Pavilion Expo 2020 Dubai. Till tomorrow, three lakh people coming here is a big deal in itself. The India Pavilion at the Dubai Expo was inaugurated on October 1. By November 3, more than two lakh people had reached here, making it one of the most visited pavilions. During the visit, Jaishankar met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovakia, Ivan Korko.

Meeting with foreign ministers of other countries
Jaishankar said, “It was a pleasure to meet Slovakian Foreign Minister Ivan Korko at the Dubai Expo 2020. We look forward to further strengthening our cooperation with the Visegrad Group.’ He also met Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides at the expo. “Nice to meet Foreign Minister of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides at the India Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai,” Jaishankar said in a tweet.

He also met Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Esselborn and discussed bilateral cooperation in the health sector with him. He tweeted, ‘Glad to be with Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Esselborn in Dubai. We discussed cooperation in the health sector. Dubai Expo 2020 began on October 1, 2021 and will continue till March 31, 2022.
