Two pet dogs have been given death sentence for injuring a lawyer in Karachi, Pakistan. Last month, these two German Shepards injured Mirza Akhtar, a lawyer by profession, when he had gone for a morning walk. The dog’s owner Humayun Khan has apologized to Akhtar and a fine of 10 lakh Pakistani rupees has also been imposed on him. At the same time, animal welfare activists are opposing the punishment given to both the dogs.
The video footage of the incident had gone viral on social media. Both the dogs attacked Mirza and he kept trying to save himself. Later Khan came and rescued him but by then Akhtar was quite injured.
According to the Tribune report, the two reached an agreement on July 6 and Akhtar accepted to pardon Khan. It has been told in the agreement between the two that the doctors will immediately put both the dogs involved in the incident to death. If Khan has any other dog, he will hand it over to him too. Apart from these, a dog has to be registered with the Clifton Cantt Board and will not go out on the road without a handler.
Apart from this, Khan will also give 10 lakh rupees to the local shelter. Before the settlement, Khan had applied for bail in the court. Two of his employees were kept in custody by the police. At the same time, Animal Welfare Groups are calling this agreement inhuman and opposing it. They say that why the careless animals are being punished for the carelessness of the handlers?
